Exactly. Its like when I say women are irrational and overemotional and they get mad. If it doesn't apply to you then just recognize its not about you and ignore it! Let me have my thing! /s
That's not an answer to the question :] so I'm guessing no
Black people can complain about white people, no one's denying that
So women can complain about men, the only reason we deny that is continuing misogyny
Complain all you want. Trying to lump half the human population into one group and dehumanize them as 'trash' is still probably not something you should be doing, regardless of history.
You are unwittingly creating resentment from strangers you don’t know because you feel so justified based on things that may or may not have happened to you, but you have the privilege of holding others accountable for in some righteous, self soothing way. It would be easier just to say you hate all men (for the benefit of the men I mean, so they can know to avoid you).
I don't hate all men. I have friends who are men. Those friends also just shrug and sometimes even agree with me when I complain about men (one is twice my age with tons more life experience)
Creating resentment from strangers is all that happens on reddit so I'm fine with that
The truth is women have to be constantly alert and suspicious of men literally just to survive. We are raised that way and there's damn good reason for it. If you can't recognize that, you're probably part of the problem and not an ally to women in any way
You sound like you’re in highschool or just out of it, so I’ll just let you continue experiencing life and hopefully you’ll find a more peaceful, less resentful way to approach this subject in the future. All people deserve a fair shake in life. You have no right to take that away because of your own prejudice.
I was saying that because a lot of what you’re saying is accidentally discounting others’ experiences while overcompensating for your own. In relationships, friends or otherwise, you gain a lot more from seeing people as your equal in as many respects as possible. It’s too bad you’ve had bad experiences, but a lot of people have. Don’t let it define how you treat people unless you’re looking for the same prejudice in return; you’re enabling bad behavior by embodying it yourself versus discrediting it by going above it. Nothing helps bad habits proliferate more than exhibiting the same bad behavior yourself.
I’ve been married over a decade and my wife is an absolute gem to humanity. She feels the same about me and it’s made me work towards being a better and better version of myself everyday I get to spend with her. Love and giving has far more power than hate and judgement.
I literally don't see how I'm discrediting other people's experiences
I have friends who go "white people suck, but not you you get it" when I'm in the room and I don't take personal offense to it because they aren't talking about me? Why can't men do the same? I don't understand?
Because blanket statements are inherently stupid. They’re neither completely true or false. It’s just an expression of anger and resentment in this instance. Why put all of that negative energy out there? There are healthier ways to deal with real emotions than alienating other people you don’t know for no good reason.
Also your friends didn’t just say “white people suck.” The example you gave included them reaffirming to you specifically that they’re not talking about you which is slightly different than what this message was originally about.
Nonetheless most blanket statements are not illuminating anything actually important; most of the time it’s just signaling something to others in a very shallow way.
I mean i usually do say present company exempt, just because i say these things doesn't automatically mean im being as much of a bitch about it as possible. I treat my friends who are guys well and they're aware that I don't hate them. It's literally just a non issue.
And complaining in general is non important and shallow if you want to go with that angle
Well now you’re just arguing around in circles and losing your own point. The original point was that if I weren’t trash as a man that I wouldn’t take any offense to someone saying “all men are trash.” Without any caveats.
Either way, I don’t care anymore because arguing online with some young kid that doesn’t give a shit what I say anyway is about the most meaningless activity I can think of haha. No offense. Do whatever you want kid.
