Yep, a lot of dads try to stay out of it. Not just the birth either, it's often more like the first two years.

I was visiting a relative, who had their baby around the same time we did. The dude mentioned how he is sleeping on the couch, so the baby only wakes his wife and he can sleep properly.

I felt that was weird, because my wife and i do everything baby related together. We also had an emergency c-section, and my wife was knocked out afterwards, so i stayed with the baby from the second he was out. That feeling directly after the birth where his breething adjusts to mine, calms and stabilises... nothing compares to that.

I know 0 people that were not present and attentive for the birth of their child.
