Who is exactly running into polar bears wild life photographers. I went about as far north as you can safely go into the interior of Alaska (I wanted to drive to the artic ocean). From where I stopped our custom suburban, you need to take a rugged off road vehicle with gas and tires about another 11hours to the artic ocean about 8 hours in you need to get permission from the oil field management to use the overland roads. And that is summer travel. Winter requires dog sleds or specialize vehicles that look like civilian tanks or speciallity rigged transfer trucks.

Try Churchill, Canada. Polar bears regularly encounter humans, so much so that the town has a dedicated bear warning program, kids aren't allowed to walk home from school alone, and residents leave their vehicles unlocked so people can take shelter in an emergency.

Jeezz Efing Chirs. TIL a 45hr train ride takes you to a town of ~870 people that annually gets a bunch of 1000kg bears waiting on sea ice.

I had no idea they ranged that far south into the sub-artic. I was aware of the Nordic Nations, Greenland, and Russia having military reconnaissance units in the artic armed with specializedweapons in case of encounters but didn't know of this.

Is the area a place they hibernate?

I guess so? Churchill has a small airport and they run polar bear tours. My parents took one and it was basically going out in an armored vehicle bringing your telephoto lens because you weren't going to get close.

Pretty neat. Probably not an adventure I'm going to take, Lol. I am hoping to see the flamingos in the Atacama next year.
