Brown bears are grizzly bears, they’re the same thing.

Are European brown bears the same as grizzlies?

Grizzlies are North American Brown Bears. Brown bears in Europe are Eurasian Brown Bears.

They are the same species

Here's the thing... LOL! Yes, they are the same species, and Eurasian Brown Bears are not Grizzlies.

No, they are the same species, it’s like the difference between a Caucasian, and an Eurasian person.

No, they are the same species

Just like I confirmed!

it’s like the difference between a Caucasian, and an Eurasian person

Not quite, since Caucasians and Eurasians are not different sub-species like the Eurasian and Grizzly Bears are. In any case, Eurasian Bears are not Grizzlies.

You are correct. The other person seems to be misunderstanding. All belong to the species Ursus arctos but the common grizzly is specifically the subspecies Ursus arctos horribilis.

All brown bears are the same species. They vary in size and appearance, based on environmental conditions, and available food sources.

Yes, and having those differences is what separates them by subspecies and thus they get different names. The grizzly is just one term for one sub population in the Americas. Not all brown bears in North America are called grizzlies. Grizzly is a very specific one known for its unique appearance I.e. the hairs on its back that make it iconic from other brown bear populations.
